Be the Cool House This Halloween!

Are you tired of handing out the same old mini-candy bars to Trick or Treaters? Would you like unusual party favors? Do something bewitchingly better—serve customized colorful fortune cookies. We have all sorts of delicious combinations that perfectly fit the Halloween mood.

• pumpkin pie flavored, orange colored cookies

• grape flavored, purple cookies

• black raspberry cookies that are, well, black!

• orange flavored cookies—you guessed it—they’re orange!

• add your choice of fine Belgian white, milk or dark chocolate dipping

• sprinkle these gourmets treats with our black and orange bat mix or pick purple, orange or black candy sprinkles Of course we bake a full array of colors and flavors in our Indiana bakery, so if your spooky scheme is more adventurous, we can handle that, too.

Make your Halloween cookies extra special with personalized fortunes, such as:

• The Addams Family wishes you a ghoulishly good time tonight.

• Edward sends his love, but beware his kisses!

• Enjoy all the things that go bump in the night…did you hear that?

• We predict you’ll cast a spell over someone tonight.

• Be on the lookout for a tall, dark and handsome vampire.

• You have permission to be monstrously silly tonight.

Our resident witchy designer even has some wicked ideas for decorating with and serving colorful, gourmet fortune cookies this Halloween. Of course you may already have Halloween serving vessels on hand which is great. But if you don’t, a simple fun project for the kids is to hollow out a pumpkin and use it as a serving bowl . You can still carve designs into the bottom if you like, since the fortune cookies re too big to fall through. Your guests will appreciate that each fortune cookie is sealed in cellophane to keep them safe from ghostly fingerprints. An artier variation is to craft a bowl from a dried gourd, though this takes more planning to achieve a dried gourd. (Though some farm stores sell them already dried at this time of year.) A gourd makes a very rustic yet elegant serving piece for our colorful fortune cookies.

For a more ambitious project, make a Ghost Tree. Find a dead or windfallen branch and paint it black. Anchor it inside any sort of container: an old flower pot filled with sand or pebbles, or even florist’s oasis if the branch is light enough. Or perhaps you have an old wooden box that would fit your décor. Lots of garden items are on sale at this time of year, so you might find a real bargain that you don’t mind painting black, like this faux urn. If your branch is large, you may need to use plaster of paris to hold it in place. If you use a plastic pot, the plaster can be cracked out later.

Now the fun begins—hang all sorts of Halloween ornaments if you have them, along with colorful fortune cookies (in or out of their wrappers). If you choose to remove the wrappers, a simple ribbon pulled up through the cookie works perfectly. If you prefer to keep the cookies wrapped, then add a decorative folded paper topped and hang from that. To make it easy for you, we’ve made a batty one that coordinates with our candy bat sprinkles that you can download and print. (It's at the end of this page, just right click and save.) Then just trim, fold, glue to the wrapper & hang with a ribbon or string. Very scary!

So go ahead and be different this year —we dare you! And here’s a little treat to make it even easier:
